Brief History

           The Department of Vastuvidya was established in 1994 to propagate our traditional heritage in Vastuvidya, which still continues to be followed over the large areas of our Nation. It has a great role in the preservation and propagation of the subject among the modern masters of builders in India providing scientific support as per the basic Vastu texts in Sanskrit. Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has taken a bold step by starting a new system of study in traditional knowledge and Indian heritage in technological science under the faculty of ‘Other Sanskrit Studies’ to impart this knowledge to the modern academic study system as first in this category. To fulfill the mission of the department, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has started a post-graduate study programme. M.T. Arch and Ph.D. in traditional Architecture for the modern engineering and architecture graduates and post graduates in 1995. The University also started interdisciplinary research studies in other traditional subjects also in the Faculty of Other Sanskrit Studies. The Department of Vastuvidya has conducted three exhibitions in different stations viz. Kalady, Cheruthuruthi and Kechery in connection with All India History Congress, Keraliyam, and Puram Exhibition respectively. During the period of these exhibitions about five lakhs of people visited the Vastuvidya exhibition pavilion. The Department has successfully achieved a great mission, public awareness programme in Vastu science through this programme.
